How to score full marks in the Conclusion and Evaluation in the IBDP Internal Assessment (IA) or Extended Essay (EE)

This criterion assesses the student’s ability to draw valid conclusions based on the evidence obtained and to evaluate the reliability and limitations of the investigation. The assessment looks for evidence of appropriate analysis and interpretation of the data, clear conclusions, and an understanding of the limitations of the investigation.

1. Restate the research question or hypothesis and summarize the main findings and results of the study.

2. Discuss how well the results support the original hypothesis or research question and whether they confirm or reject the initial hypothesis.

3. Address any limitations or shortcomings of the study, including potential sources of error or bias and how they may have affected the results.

4. Identify any unexpected or surprising findings and explain how they might contribute to future research in the field.

5. Evaluate the significance and implications of the findings and discuss how they contribute to the existing knowledge in the field.

6. Suggest areas for further research and experimentation, based on the current findings and limitations.

7. Discuss the overall success of the methodology used in the study and evaluate its appropriateness for addressing the research question.

8. Conclude with a summary statement that highlights the key findings of the study and their significance and suggests potential avenues for future research.
